Stoel Rives Welcomes Five New Attorneys

SALT LAKE CITY - Stoel Rives LLP, a full-service U.S. business law firm, has added five new attorneys to its Salt Lake City office. Matthew S. Gordon, Ph.D., and Rachel M. Slade, Ph.D. joined the Technology and Intellectual Property practice group, and Landon A. Allred, Jason W. Crowell, and Cameron L. Ward joined the Litigation practice group.
Matthew S. Gordonfocuses his patent practice in the life science sector working with clients in the biotechnology, molecular diagnostic and pharmaceutical industries. In addition to preparing and prosecuting domestic and international patent applications, Mat aids clients in patent matters including freedom to operate analyses, and appeals to the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences. Mat also has experience in patent litigation support, including assisting in preparation for oral arguments held before the court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
To bring value to clients, Mat leverages the life science experience he gained during his Ph.D. training, including expertise in microarray technologies, antibody-based techniques, genomics, RNAi, gene expression, genetics, protein structure and function, and enzymology. Mat was a summer associate at Stoel Rives in Salt Lake City in 2008. He was also a summer associate at Butzel Long in Detroit, Michigan in 2008, and a summer associate at Parsons Behle and Latimer in Salt Lake City in 2007. He received his J.D. cum laude at the University of Michigan Law School in 2009. He obtained a Ph.D. in Oncological Sciences in 2006 from the University of Utah, and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Brigham Young University in 2000.
Rachel Sladefocuses her patent practice on technology involving organic chemistry in the life science and pharmaceutical industries. Rachel leverages her significant drug discovery experience in the pharmaceutical industry to provide strategic client counseling and assist her clients in patent prosecution, due diligence reviews, and validity and freedom to operate analyses. Rachel's research and industry experience has concentrated on the design and synthesis of therapeutics against Alzheimer's disease, cancer, HIV and inflammation. She has applied her expansive knowledge of medicinal and combinatorial chemistry to successfully design and discover potential drug candidates. Rachel is also an inventor on multiple patents.
Rachel was a summer associate at Stoel Rives in Salt Lake City in 2008; she was a law intern at the University of Utah Technology Commercialization Office from 2007-2008, a law clerk for Myriad Genetics, Inc. in Salt Lake City in 2006, a scientist at Myriad Pharmaceuticals Inc. in Salt Lake City from 2000-2006, a scientific fellow at SIDDCO in Tucson, AZ from 1998-2000, and a scientist at Darwin Molecular Corporation in Seattle, WA from 1995-1998. Rachel received her J.D. from the University of Utah in 2008. She received her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Oregon in 1995, and a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.S. in Biochemistry at the University of Minnesota in 1989.
Landon Allredis an associate in the trial section of the Litigation practice group. He counsels clients on general commercial litigation matters in state and federal courts. He has been involved in litigation regarding contract, employment, professional negligence, real estate, probate, and other commercial disputes. Landon was most recently a summer associate at Stoel Rives in Salt Lake City in 2008. Before that, he worked as a summer associate for Clifford & Brown in Bakersfield, California in 2007. Landon received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2009, and his B.A. in Economics at Brigham Young University in 2005.
Jason Crowell,who recently transferred from the firm's Seattle office, is a senior associate practicing in the trial section of the Litigation group. He concentrates his practice in complex commercial disputes and has first-chair experience in both trial and arbitration. Jason was an associate at Thelen Reid & Priest LLP in Los Angeles, an associate at Keesal, Young & Logan, P.C. in Seattle, a law clerk for the Honorable C. Kenneth Grosse of the Washington Court of Appeals, and a judicial extern for the Honorable Margaret M. Morrow of the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Jason received his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law in 2002, and his B.A. summa cum laude at Boise State University in 1999.
Cameron Wardis an associate in the trial section of the Litigation practice group. He represents clients in state and federal courts on general commercial litigation matters. Cameron was most recently a clerk for the Honorable Justice Jill Parrish of the Utah Supreme Court. He was a summer associate at Stoel Rives in Salt Lake City in 2007. Cameron also was a law clerk for the Union Pacific Railroad Corporation from 2006-2007, and a student clerk for the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Utah from 2003-2005. Cameron received his J.D. with high honors from the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah in 2008. He also received his B.A. in Political Science, B.S. in Economics, and minor in Latin American Studies, cum laude, in 2005 from the University of Utah.
